Course History
The course was dedicated on 6/2/2001. It really had its start in 1999, when Rochester earned 9 Innova Discathcher baskets for having the largest turnout in the Worlds Biggest Disc Golf Tournament. Later in the year, Rochester hosted the Pro Worlds. Tim Selinski and Dave Dunipace from Innova-Champion Disc Golf, Inc. donated another 9 baskets to us as a result of our running an excellent World Tournament and to continue the development of Disc Golf in Rochester, N.Y.! Thanks Tim and Dave! It was a course in search of a home for some time. At a club meeting, Jim Palmeri suggested Basil Marella Park in Greece, where he had mapped out a possible course many years before. Dave Thomas contacted the Greece Parks Department. The head of Parks, John Plummer, had once been a student of Dave’s and received the offer enthusiastically. Royce Racinowski, Doug Corea and Bob Nelson laid out a course and created fairways through the woods.

The course was built with many hours of volunteer work provided by the Rochester disc golf community. Vanza McEntee and Dave Thomas spent many hours rounding up hole sponsorships, including funds for 9 more holes. The additional holes (the East 9) were designed by Tom Mulligan, Dave Thomas and Ron Fodge, using existing “natural fairways” with virtually no cutting. Continuous improvements are being made on the course. In July 2006, the “East Nine” baskets were relocated to Sawyer Park in Greece, returning the Basil Marella course to the original 18 holes.

On Saturday May 10th, 2008 we installed cement tee pads on all 18 holes!

Note: The Course starts at the kiosk. The “pro” tee blocks are yellow, the “intermediate” tee blocks are red and the “rec” tee blocks are blue.

A paved bike path runs near some of the holes. Park rules prohibit throwing discs over the bike path! Any disc that crosses the bike path is O.B. and incurs a one stroke penalty. The disc must be carried back over the path before marking the lie and making the next throw.
