Theres been alot of talk recently about our courses and the role that they play in hosting the AmWorlds. This thread is a place for people to ask questions, make suggestions, and stay informed on that aspect of the event.

I'll start us off:
Will Ellison's current layout be tough enough in 2011?

Very good thought about this thread and about Ellison. All courses do not need to be extremely difficult for the Am Worlds---its ok if someone shoots 6 under par for a course, but its a very good question. During the PDGA site visit, they will recommend how we tweak and re-design our courses in preparation for the worlds. The Ellison course is an awesome course but I could see us moving some of the tee pads when we start dropping in concrete---probably no major chnges, but we will see and any input is welcome.

We could laid the concrete tee pads about at least 5 to 10ft away from the original tee lines, then we can replace the original lines with the color tee blocks or something like that.

That concrete tee pads concept should be applied at Ellison AND Basil course too. But don't know about other courses that needs it, maybe MCC like Dave suggested for #5 tee (and #14)??

BUT please NO concrete pads at Chili at all, please!!

why not a rubber mulch like at playgrounds it compacts tight allows irrigation and comes in all different colors so you could do multiple tees

Sounds like a TERRIFIC idea,zag.........How about contacting either Ryan or Tony to present this idea.....they can be reached by the information in this website! I especially like the idea of different colors for multiple tees!

Hello.......you MUST contact these guys.....this seems like a LOT better idea "all the way around" ........do you have a cost estimate? Each tee area is approx. 4'X8'.......thx,Dave

This rubber mulch doesn't compact at all, that is why I suggested crushed gravel in another post so you could actually tamp it down. I think the tee pad at MCC has proved my point the rubber mulch just gets kicked out of the way.

I'd still rather see cement tee pads go in at Ellison but someone mentioned there was resistance from a group of people called the "friends of ellison." I want to know when these people meet to see what their concerns are about cement tee pads.

Gator......"Go 4 It"! Tee Pads? Ellison? lolol.........It will not happen.......
As for the gravel for # 5 @ MCC...there is a pile of gravel at Basil Marella by Hole # 9 that has been sitting there for two months!! I doubt it will be moved anytime soon.....lololol.........back up a truck and fill up......or ask Ryan... I am sure there will a positive response to you using it!

Did a basic search and got this info. Be interesting to see how many picnic'rs/dogs/uncontrolled tweens use that area of the park versus us DGrs.

Dave why would it be so impossible to get tee pads at Ellison that your lol.
please impart some knowledge to me. As this is my home course and one of the most frequented courses from what i've seen I thought it deserved some discussion.

I would,if I were you,check with the MANY players who have played this course over the past 20 years and are regulars at Ellison (Royce, Racinwski,Rick Howard,John Whitney,Jim Palmeri,etc.,etc,.). They will tell you all they THEY have done to try and get decent tees in there! You are fighting...Monroe County, The Friends of Ellison,(maybe the City of Rochester), park users,horse riders,dog walkers,sledders,and the list goes on & on.....
Good Luck tho.......you might just get lucky. I do know that Ryan Hand and Tony Inzana are working with the Monroe County Sports Authority....so it mighhappen,but never hold your breath! Dave

I think this thread would be a good place to update people who can't get to the meetings on:

1. what the current status of planning is,
2. what any of us could/should be focusing on for the Worlds
3. what projects/activities need volunteers right now.

Tony, can you or someone else closest to the center of activity update us on where things stand?

Yes, you are right. We just elected Gene as our new club secretary and I am confident that we will start havig some updates for you. One thing though is that we are gonna have meetings at least once or twice a month, usually on a Monday and it will be difficult to keep everyone updated fully. My suggestion would be to attend one of our meetings and offer up some help/suggestions if possible.

I do plan to start posting the meeting "minutes" from the World's and Club's meetings. I am new to the Secretary formalities but I will try to be as thorough as I can with it.

We have a worlds meeting next monday. I cant meet tonight for our internet "geek" session but I propose that we try to do some of that next Monday if thats ok with all. We are meeting with Monroe county today regarding Ellison, Churchville and Genesee Valley so wish us luck.
