Hey Billy,

I hope that they are both part of the Can Am Series.

Troy is in AZ right now, and I know that he will be co-directing the cookout this year.

I am sure that he will contact you when he gets back

I'm going to ask a question I believe is on many minds.
Will there be OB nonsense like at the '12 Cookout?
While I love Johnny Flash personally, I must say that last year was a bit of a fiasco IMO.
While I have no problem with extra OBs, they need to be well-defined.
There were way too many gray areas (i.e. the stream/crossings on #4 & #5). This also includes the rules applying differently to various divisions.
Declaring all unmowed grass as OB was absurd.
I feel Chili is a strong enough course on its own, that it doesn't need tweaking for a tournament. A few extra OB areas for traffic concerns or to add a bit of difficulty is acceptable, but last year was a bit too much.
I must say that it was the only tournament that I've played to date that I did not have fun.
I want to register, but I would like to know what the plans are for the course layout before committing my time and money.
Sincerely,
KJ

The cost is fine  , but walking up to a 300 ft. drive right in the middle of the fairway on a 900 ft. hole and being told you're OB because the mower stopped mowing 6 inches from your disc...that sucks.

I didn't attend last year but I saw how tight those orange OB lines were and thought it was pretty silly

In the words of Charlie Conway: "If your disc was 6 inches the other way you would have missed the OB"

More defined I can agree with but getting rid of them I do not. That way everyone plays the same OB's and you have to throw a good shot period.

Looking forward to some FUN discin!

How have I survived all these years without the guidance of such wisdom?

PL08 wrote:More defined I can agree with but getting rid of them I do not. That way everyone plays the same OB's and you have to throw a good shot period.

You clearly missed the point - the OB was excessive; good shots were being penalized.
I clearly noted that adding OBs is perfectly acceptable - just not in the manner of the 2012 Cookout. This is the Chili Cookout not the USDGC - period.

Forehander wrote:I didn't attend last year but I saw how tight those orange OB lines were and thought it was pretty silly

This addresses my other point - much of the OB wasn't marked clearly. What was was done poorly.
"Declaring all unmowed grass as OB was absurd." - I stand by that statement.

Still waiting to hear from someone in charge of the event regarding the matter for 2013.
I want to attend, but I don't want to spend the day discussing whether someone's throw is in or out and being penalized for otherwise perfectly good throws.
I don't think I'm being unreasonable for expressing my feelings publicly regarding last year, or for inquiring about this year ahead of time.

I for one am really looking forward to "The Cookout" I'm sure after all the controversy surrounding O.B. from last year that it will be a total non-issue this year

Excuse me Ron... The guy who WON intermdiate (New division?) and more importantly because Sean took a 9 on 14 because of the stroke and distance OB's. Freaking AWESOME!

And Kevin if you need more CC wisdom I'd be glad to let you borrow Mighty Ducks 1-3. Gordon Bombay gets a DWI and then runs a youth hockey team. Disney at its finest!

And if you throw OB, it is not a good shot. But I would LOVE to rope Chili like the USDGC and make every shot stroke and distance!

That would be fun!

Ahaha!

Kevin- I talked to Troy the other day and he said there won't be crazy OB's like 2012 Cook out.

For the 2007 NYS Championships ,Chili was roped off to simulate the USDGC. Every fair way was risk/reward. By doing that it leveled the playing field so guys that could only muster a 300' shot had a chance to compete with big arms. Dougie O was 2nd that year and we all know he doesnt throw all that far!!!!!!!

Thank you Ron.

PL08 - I'd be willing to bet that I threw more "good shots" than you did last year while you were winning INT. How many lift and replace in-bounds w/out penalty shots (dumbest rule ever) did you get in round # 1
If you wish to keep needling me, put up or shut up.
I'll be happy to play you at Chili for some cash, anytime... :P

All well and good Bobby, but that was for the State Championship with a Nationals bid on the line. I completely understand it in that situation. Totally different ballgame.
However, this is the Chili Cookout we're talking about here. It should be fun, not tedious.
Maybe I'd have had more fun sandbagging in INT with PL08, and getting to walk any errant throws back inbounds. My main point was that getting penalized for shots I throw all the time while on that course (good shots) was annoying. I wouldn't complain about regular extra OBs (ex. roped of area to R of fairway on #14; behind basket on # 3; any OB for traffic/player safety), but it was just too freakin' much. Let's not pretend that I'm the only one that felt this way. Everyone that I talked to thought it was a joke.

BTW Bobby - when we throwin' together? I need some Brownguy wisdom before the season starts...

Hi Everyone!!!

This is Troy Widden: TD of the Chili Cookout

I would like to clarify the planned OB for the course this year. It will be nothing like last year. The perimeter and natural water hazards will be OB. We will split a couple of fairways, just for safety and speed of play.

If anyone has more questions, please feel free to call me!

Yesterday I played a round at Chili and picked up 4 case boxes of trash. Why are people such slobs? If you carry it in, carry it out (much lighter!). I will do the same Friday as I am sure there will be more litter by then.

I would try and call or email Troy asap, the spots were just filled up this week so u might have a good chance of getting the top spot on the waiting list. PDGA is the accurate list since it includes people who signed up in person, email or snail mail.

VERY well run tournament gentlemen and thanks to everyone who helped set up the OB's. Everything was clearly marked and just looked top notch. Tons of giveaways, great t-shirt part of the players pack, every hole was sponsored, all and all an awesome tournament (besides my actual play haha).

Big shout out to Dan for retaining his title this year even with Brownguy ripping up the course round 1 and having a top touring pro (thanks McCabe!) joining the cookout this year.

304 wins the battle of the Dougs but the trophy may happen to be misplaced in the hands of another Doug.

Sean comes from 7 strokes back to tie things up on the final hole to force a playoff in advanced. Went 3 holes but a birdie by Ben clinched it.

Mr. Doug Drees (correct me if I am wrong) grabs his first intermediate win by driving like a top advanced player but putting like a rec (his words).

I didn't hear the other divisions but any Rochester winners??!!

CONGRATS TO ALL and cannot wait for more events hosted by Schmidlin and Widden!
