38th Annual RFDO

Postby Tony Inzana » Tue Nov 22, 2011 7:27 pm

JUST ANNOUNCED !!!

The 38th ANNUAL RFDO (Rochester Flying Disc Open) will be taking place on August 11th and 12th, 2012 !!! This will be the BIGGEST weekend tournament ever held here in Rochester. We have worked very closely with the PDGA to get our tournament strategically placed in order to attract the top Touring Pros !!! Our Supertour/ A-tier event is in between 2 NT events, the Brent Hambrick and the Vibram Open. I have little doubt that we will sell out both AM and the Pro pools at 72 each. This is going to be a great event, following this town putting on an incredible Am Worlds !!!

We are looking for help. Please contact Ryan or myself if you are interested in being a part of this great event !!! We are most likely going to use 3 courses on Sat and Sun as well as run a formal doubles on Friday evening.

This is our chance to shine, not only in the eyes of the Amateurs, but also with the top Pros in the World. Most of these Pros have either been here for the 1999 Pro Worlds or have heard about our Chili course and will be so delighted to see what has happened to this amazing piece of land over the last decade. I am looking forward to a kick ass weekend in August and hope you guys want to tag along for the fun. Rochester is on the map to stay in the world of Disc Golf !!!

I missed the announcement at the worlds meeting for Bob Nelson, but with this Tournament now getting an A-tier level, I would like to do something permanent at the Chili course for Bob, at next years event, where Chili will get more exposure. Something in the line of a tree planting with a plaque, or an engraved rock(bowling -ball on the green of 9 - just kidding)...Corea mentioned it last year and nothing ever came of it,... I see myself putting most of the money in just cuz he and I became so close over the years, and Chili really was his proudest moment in the 99 'worlds...I want it to be top notch, he deserved it. He was a pain to deal with sometimes, God rest his soul, but he loved the sport and volunteered countless hours to that course. I will start a new thread for feedback...thanks
Go Big or Stay Home....its disc golf for cripes sake!

The RFDO is officially a Vibram Open Qualifier. 2 spots will be up for grabs to play the next week at the Vibram Open. Yet another reason to attract the top Pros for our huge event this coming August !!!

The touring pros who will be coming will need a free place to stay(disc golf doesn't exactly pay well). If anyone can offer a sofa/floor space or even just a backyard to camp in that is a help. Not only does it help players save money but I've always enjoyed staying with people vs staying in a hotel.

If you can help in this way post or send me a message, and when the tournament gets nearer I will put a tour player who needs a place to stay in touch with you. This is a BIG HELP and doesn't cost anything. Knowing there are free places to stay will help attract top pros too

Avery will be here, as well as Nate Doss and Val Jenkins. We are also expecting Eric McCabe and Page Pierce as well as the Non-stop disc golf tour with Feldberg, Locastro and Will Schusterick. John E. McCray from Florida will be back up here this time to play instead of helping with the worlds. I would also expect quite a few more of the touring pros here for the RFDO as they travel from Ohio and the Brent Hambrick the weekend before the RFDO to Massachusetts for the Vibram Open the weekend after.

If they don't mind being 30ish minutes from the courses there's plenty of room to pop a tent out my way. There's a basket in the yard and room to throw as much and as far as you please.

I looked at the schedule and just to confirm, if you play in another division other than pro, you will be able to watch the final 9 correct?
