MCC has a new look!!!!

Course conditions, opinions and observations

MCC has a new look!!!!

Postby rhand » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:32 am

The next time you head out to MCC you will see (or maybe not if you don't know where to go) a lot of changes.

Yesterday afternoon we moved several baskets to their new homes. Hole 1 will now be what was hole 13. Holes 8,10,11,12,15 have all been removed.

There are orange flags marking the majority of the new tees. I will get to the rest early Saturday.

We still have a lot of work left to do, so know, what you see now is not the final product.

I'm really excited about the changes and feel that this course is going to be something that everyone will come to enjoy. When all is said and done this course will be the most verstile one in the area with 2 sets of tees and a minimum of 2 pin placements.

We are working on updating the map.

I hope everyone enjoys. Please get out there and check it out and let me know your feedback.

Created a new page for the course on DGCR (and retired the old one): http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4937

Feel free to update with any details. I just copied and pasted over a lot of the old info.

easy ones to find... 4 is old 18, 5 is old 1, and 6 is a longer more AWESOME Old #2. Great work Ryan. Me falconio and Jones were out there today definitely plays a lil tougher, but still has a multitude of birds to get. plays low 50s maybe high 40s(hard to say after only 2 rounds.) rather than old layout of mid 40s. course was pretty easy to follow, there was a page of course notes in the Kiosk. This course has potential, just needs a little love every time you play a round.

Good job Ryan

Loving the new layout - definitely more challenging, and some of the new holes will be gorgeous once they are cleaned up and played a bit more (12, 13, 14). I like the concept on #5 but the tee box needs improvement, and some steps built into the hillside would help.

My only real constructive criticism is the fact that players are forced to walk back up #3's fairway to get to #18. Doesn't seem safe, or conducive to good course flow. I was thinking that #3's tee could be moved to roughly the area of where the pin is now (probably farther back from the pond, closer to the tree line where the ground is flatter), having players throw across the mouth of the creek/over the pond to a pin on the side of the hill (closer to the pond and farther back from #17's pin - behind the big stand of trees - separating it visually and physically from 17s fairway and tee). You'd keep that challenging hillside landing zone with the pin close to the water, and I think you could get similar distance and similar lines (big hyzer or anhyzer), with the added psychological challenge of going over the water. The only real issue is that depending where the tee is placed, players going from 17 to 18 might have to cross in front - but at least they aren't going all the way up the fairway. And I think there is enough room to let people pass behind the tee.

Just my 2 cents - looking forward to the next workday!

Dave, the parking lots to all our courses less Basil/Ellison are "secluded" with low traffic. I think you're just being paranoid.

Hey Ben, there were arrows directing you to a path cut through the woods that goes around hole 3's fairway so you don't have to walk down it. It was a bit of a longer walk, but I'm sure cutting a shorter route through the trees is on 'the list'.

I totally missed those arrows - oops! Though without a real barrier or signage, I have a feeling a lot of players will still walk straight up the fairway - either out of habit or ignorance.

Plus I just want more over-the-pond shots cause I think they are cool

Speaking of signage - can folks volunteer to make signs, or is that something MCC is going to handle? I could always use a little side project for the winter months, more than happy to cover the cost of materials and whatnot . . .

Ben,
You are certainly welcome to start a project like that. Obviously, directional signs are needed the most at this point. I am not sure what our plans were for tee signs.
I hope to have the new course map and hole maps done over the course of the next few weeks so they can be posted online.

Thanks,
Gene

I guess no one else has a problem w losing discs in the water due to the new pin placements..I can't see playing the 2 holes that force a putt into the drink.. Having to lay up from 20 ft out takes the fun out, any way to move those?

layups are a part of the game... risk/reward!

If you need to make the putt to win, the risk is worth the reward... but if it's not worth the potential penalty stroke for going in the water, then it's not worth the risk!

Not to mention that if you take a different line off the tee, you can set yourself up for a putt that isn't looking at the water on both holes.

Ryan talked of two tees and two pins...short tee to short basket should be extremely easy with very little potential to lose a disc. The course isn't designed for ALL skill levels to play the PRO layout. that's why there will be Am tees.

Concrete, MCC Physical Education Dept will be buying the supplies but we will need to install them ourselves.

There has also been talk to possibly put some small barriers along the water edges where discs have the potential to roll in around those certain basket locations.

What about putting up a net of some sort on a hole like #3? I have an old soccer net that would probably work well that I'de gladly donate if it meant being able to run the basket w/out worrying if I'm going to get wet.

Just my opinion but what does risk/reward mean to you guys? if we are going to put barriers at the waters edge then why even move the basket that close? I mean part of the reason MCC is so great is that if you want to beat your best score you may have to part ways with a $12 putter to do so. Carry an extra specifically for this purpose.

I just put a putter in on #3 going for it, not 2 hours ago

Looks like I'll have to choose a different angle for my drive

Right on brotha. That's what makes this game great and separates the men from the boys. If your feeling off play it safe and if you have the balls go for the ace/birdie.

If you take the big hyzer route off the tee, a net would guarantee your disc would end up moist.
