2014 GRDGC MATCH PLAY!! Round 7&8

Postby PL08 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:09 am

We have 5 matches still to be played and I have heard from most of you so please make sure to get them in this week so we can schedule the rest of the round 7 matches.

But! Some matches are set for Round 7 and Round 8 is ready to go so let us begin!

Round 7 will be played at MCC Black. You will play to all black baskets except for gold baskets on 12, 13, and 15. This round is playing against the player in the opposite division (Div 1 vs. Div 2, Div 3 vs. Div 4) of your conference that is in the same standing as you. If your name is in bold for Round 7, your match is locked in and can be played. All others must wait till the behind matches are complete.

Round 8 will be played at Ellison. Very simple this year with all pavement and beyond OB. Mando's have also been removed. Matches are set in the link below and can begin play!

The start of July looks like some gorgeous weather so let's see some matches played early!

As always post when your matches are and have fun!

As for Ellison, 'The Peter' vs 'I Chel-sea your rating and raise you 17 mulligans!' Thursday at 5pm.

Hey Ron,

First. No 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, etc. etc. The rich don't get richer this round! To be the best you play the best!

Second, everyone please see original post again. Once your name is in bold you are able to play your match. The rank that you are in, look at the opposing division and play against that player. Mullies have been placed.

Make sense all? Fits into the spreadsheets easiest this way but let me know if it is too confusing.

5 more matches have been added with Torpey's win in the books. Only 2 matches left.

Postby PL08 » Thu Jul 3, 2014 7:18 pm

Short Story:
Peter strikes early with 5 points on the first 11 and holds on to win 5-2 over Chelsea at Ellison

Long Story:
The day before we all feel a strong independence, Elli called out for 2 fierce competitors. Unfortunately, Elli was also calling for rain. Wet grip= errant shots and "The Peter" thought it may be best to wait till the rain passes. Text comes in "Just got out of work, what's the weather look like?" "Well we've got some rain coming in for the next couple hours, let's wait." Only to get a response "Nah It's fine" from the one who has 17 mullies. OK then... off to battle.

Luckily rain was a sprinkle at most and the round began.

Holes 1, 2, 3 goes to the P with a 3, 2, 2 no wash for you!

Wash for you on hole 4 and a double duece wash on 5.

Hole 6, a 3 should win the hole. Drive is at the bottom of the hill leaving an easy hyzer up shot but throw it short for a 50 foot putt. I say "well it's a wash... or I could just make this putt," which I can and grab the 4-0 lead and an "Oh Crap" in the background from Mullady.

Hole 7 P throws the P (utter) to just outside the circle. First drive for Chelsea, no good. Mulligan, then mulligan, then another mulligan leads to a park job. I need my 35 footer to wash and it's another double duece wash.

Hole 8, 9, 10 wash wash wash... Wait, what's going on here!

Hole 11 grab another one with a 3. 5-0 with 7 holes to go... PHEW!

But wait... Hole 12 I bogie, 13 I 3 putt to a double bogie and her amazingly clean upshots and drives gives her a 3 and a 4 to steal 2 points! "OH CRAP" FROM THE PETER NOW!

Hole 14 Easy bird for Peter... NOPE missed putt. Wash

Hole 15 crank a flick. Make this 45 foot putt and win. It's up... it's flat!!!... it bounces off the cage and falls to the ground. another wash.

Hole 16 Chelsea HAS to win to keep the comeback alive. She has held the box since 13 and refuses to let go. Drive is halfway down the field. Decide on a backhand that just misses the tree and seems down there for a birdie putt. Mullady has 7 to use and she has to make this shot. This was incredible folks. Putter up and passes the chains just left. Putter up again and passes chains on the right. We get to her final mulli, she throws, I'm standing next to the basket and it is dead straight... is she really going to hit this 100 footer??? It drops just under the cage hits the pole giving me 2 shots to seal the match. Of course I miss my first putt from 25 and make my comeback to seal the match 5-2.

Bonus Coverage: Chelsea wipes the floor with me with park job duece, deuces on 17 & 18 and won both holes. If she grabbed one more hole in the last 7 she would have forced OT.

Great Match!

Just curious how a 937 ranking got 2 mulligans against a 930?? How exactly are the ratings figured? Are they readjusted after each match? Something seems odd. Maybe its just my putting...but some people are better(Ryan H.) and worse(me) than their rating implies. And it seems some ratings have changed while others haven't. What gives? Either way I'm not going to be in the playoffs, but just wanted to know if there is an error somewhere other than in my putting.

....and how does a 875 against a 930 compute to 7 mulligans, while a 870 against a 934 is 6????

Re: 2014 GRDGC MATCH PLAY!! Round 7&8

Hey Zog (And rest of Match Play Competitors),

Mullies are computed for every 10 point difference. 5 rounds up. So 14 would be 1 mulli but 15 would be 2 mullies. I don't know where your 930/937 match came into play but yes it should only be 1. I'm human, I make mistakes and if anyone sees one, just let me know. Some people have in the past. Ratings are updated each month when the rounds are posted. Those rounds hold throughout until the next months matches are posted.

Yes there are plenty of players that play above their ratings and others that do not play up to their ratings. I have adjusted ratings throughout, including yours. It is hard to adjust ratings when players are not competing in tournaments. I don't know if they are just playing the rounds of their lives or their opponent is just failing hard.

As I have said throughout I am open to suggestions and especially in this rating situation. I have thought about every win adds 5 points to your rating, mullies being based on the course that is played, and multiple other ideas sent to me by the other players.

As for playoffs, Derek (Correct me if I am wrong) was 0-5 last year and missed playoffs by 1 win last year. Don't count yourself out. Mathematically everyone is still in so keep battling.

Enjoy all,

Peter

I was 0-5 to start indeed, I picked it up though and yes, I did miss the playoffs by 1 round. After my lose today to Jerami "I only suck when I'm your doubles partner" Frechette 5-2 at Ellison, I'm not sure I can recover but I'll still be giving it a shot!

Chelsea Loses to Zog at MCC Black 6-5 in Overtime (Is it called overtime? Sudden death? I am in World Cup mode lol)

The day started with Zog and I agreeing that I was going to lose and laughing, because even with 17 Mullies Zog should kick my ass. But I told him I promised to not make it easy on him and that I would be a pain in his ass all day and I believe I at least followed through on one of those things. It was an extremely fun round. Zog made me play better. But here is a the breakdown for those of you who want to know or are bored at work this morning.

1) Zog's drive is past the yellow basket in the woods, near perfect. He takes a 3 and I take a four (a mull wouldn't have helped so I didn't bother) Zog takes the early lead 1-0 and I have a mull for every hole left.
2) Somehow my first two drives are past Zog's around the corner but I need 2 mulls for my upshot and we end up pushing with 5s. Still 1-0 and 15 mulls left.
3) Zog has a short drive so I mully mine in hopes to steal a win, but it doesn't matter when he makes 105 foot putts for birdies, he takes the hole and I laugh at my naive hope and push forward 2-0 14 mulls
4) I use a mully here and get the push with 3s, the grass is still too long up there 2-0 13 mulls
5) Zog goes OB and I manage to stick the fairway and save a 4 to his five, I win my first hole. 2-1 13 mulls
6) I steal the box and make my drive over, Zog's doesn't make it over but I can't make my upshot or putt for a three (even with mullies) and we push the hole with 4s, 2-1 11 mulls
7) We both scramble up to the hole and I am sitting pretty for a five and Zog has a long four putt, I get excited - I shouldn't - don't doubt Zog's putt. He will make those. 3-1 , 11 mulls
8- I blow my three chance and we push with 4s, 3-1 still and 10 mulls left
9) We both make it across (obviously) but have decent distance putts, I am certainly not in the circle but I hit post on my putt to put the pressure on Zog and he almost makes his putt it touched every chain on the right side but misses so we both take threes no mullies for the push 3-1 and 10mulls left
10) I drop in 3 no mullies and Zog fours so I begin my comeback 3-2 10mulls
11) I take out my bubble boss and drive as far as the yellow basket, which is exciting for me and I just wanted to share lol, but we both take 3s for a push still 3-2 Zog with my 10mulls left
12) I mully my drive for a more open look and even though I am in range to putt for a three to push, but I can't do it even with two mullies and I go down 4-2 with 7 mulls left
13) I scramble for a four but Zog once again with those huge putts saves a 3 and I go down 5-2 with 6 mulls left
14) Zog drives so far into the crap on the left I don't see him for nearly 5 minutes (slight hyperbole) but I keep to the fairway and snag a four without mulls which wins me the hole bringing it to 5-3 6mulls left
15) I drive to the big tree but am right behind it, I step out from around the tree wishing I didn't have to straddle putt outside the circle because I hate it and of course I miss, Zog misses too though so I figure I have so many mullies left I will try again and I miss again, but I feel like I should try one more time and I do and I can the putt for a birdie and move to 5-4 with 2 holes left and and 4 mulls left
16) Two mulls used wisely for the push keeping it 5-4 and 2 mulls left.
17) I take a drop in three no mullies (best I've ever played the hole black or yellow) and we push
18) This is it, one hole, two mulls and a promise to be a pain in the ass all day. I use my two mullies to get down the fairway once and out of the woods later. I am looking at a four putt and Zog hits a tree on his way out and takes a five, which means I tie it up! 5-5!
OVERTIME EXTRA HOLE 1
Let's just say I got way to excited and wanted to throw as many shots as possible because I think I hit every rock, tree and obstacle I possibly could have and Zog takes the hole clean! Zog wins 6-5, amazing day, amazing disc golf. Congrats to Zog and thank you for making me a better player. I feel like yesterday was what match play is all about.

Chelsea was the rover reporter on our match. After each hole she was typing notes to remember later. It was quite fun. Except on hole ten I thought we both got three's.....oh wait that was my round with Ed......never mind. Yeah I threw under the left opine and then had to punch it out and up for a four. The back nine is kicking my ass out there.

Jerami beats Tony 3-2 in 18 holes today at MCC Black

Tony took hole one easily, in spite of having never even seen the long placement before... Then a few uninteresting pushes, with the exception of me nearly getting a Black Ace on 3... The disc skipped right off the gold basket. Tony's unfortunate creek OB on 4 allowed me to tie it up, and then I took the lead on 5, before guiding him through a deer trail by the black basket that goes nowhere near the next tee pad... Pushes through the next few, until Tony parks 9 for the tie. More pushes, and we were answering each other's poor shits with equally bad shots usually ending up within feet of each other. Hole 17 is where I locked it up, my up shot looked like it may have been wet, but it was right between the water and the pin, for an easy 3.

It was a fun round, I am just glad it didn't go into OT, because I would have used up all 6 remaining Mullies to try to even push on 1!
