Rained out again this week. Awful luck this year for singles league. Will be posting makeup dates for Apple and Parma ASAP we need at least 5 people to get the round sanctioned.

Just a reminder this week at MCC will be on WEDNESDAY July 3rd because of the holiday.

Thanks,

Peter

Alright Rochester looking for some feedback. Gorgeous night out tonight at Chili and only 4 people show to singles. I can understand the last few weeks being rainy but where was everyone tonight?

So looking for feedback. Are you on Vacation? Is $10 too expensive? Do you not like the ratings? Do you not like singles? Are there too many leagues during the week and have to pick and choose? Do you just miss Derek?

I am looking for this to be a fun event and if it is Derek I am sure he can be lured out with some beer.

I do want to thank newcomer Zach out tonight and even more thank you for not only having a Polecat in your bag but using it. Highlight of the night.

Distant family in town. I like the league, the payout seems fair every time I have played so 10 isn't bad in my opinion.

1. They are kind of ratings killers, even though they are designed to "help"
2. already doing doubles, match play, and a tournament usually every weekend. Sometimes a night off is more attractive than getting home at 9 or 9:30.
3. the cost is fine, but similar to doubles, sometimes winning only nets you a $5 profit.
These aren't major concerns, but do weigh in going or not.

I agree wholeheartedly with 2 and 3...Nail on the head

Btw, how does this effect someones rating if they only show up to a couple of these?

the sanctioned singles was started by the PDGA last year to increase your ratings since you would be playing local courses you play all the time. Problem is if not a lot come out, or no high ratings are out, the ratings tend to be pretty low. There are probably other variables to this.

it's not that bad, but example i saw was, Dan's round in worlds at Ellison,47 was rated 1032. bobby's round at Ellison last year for singles, the first round, 46 was only a 1025. Granted it's easier to throw at 46 at league than throw it at worlds but that's just one example. Unfortunatley i dont' think there is anything that can be done about that.

All great points. Now we have regulars that prefer singles to doubles league, myself included, but I need a minimum of 5 PDGA (I'd prefer 20 but its a work in progress) players each week to make this happen. 3 straight weeks and 4 of the first 11 we have not been able to do that. Is there something that would be a bigger draw that would get people to come out?

For example, I have played in tournaments down south where it is set on one specific day but people can go play it at anytime, as long as they are in a group of 3. Obviously I have to work out logistics and payment methods but if I could make this work, is this more appealing to players?

Also looking for other suggestion if you have them.

Honestly I don't like starting rounds at 5:45. I prefer to play earlier so I can have time to do other things that evening/night.

Sometimes it has helped that it's later because of what's going on at work, but for the most part, I can scoot out of here at 4 or 4:15 and start playing as soon as possible after that.

This week I opted to play match play last night as I wasn't sure when we would be able to play next.

Regardless of the schedule or format, I think it is just difficult to draw a lot of people this time of year. That seems illogical considering its summer, however most people plan on playing tues night, some have tournies on the weekends, plus vacations etc. All of these things make it very difficult to commit another night of the week to DG.

The other thing with sanctioned singles is that the potential participant pool is narrowed drastically in the sense that you have to be a member, you have to be current and you have to enjoy singles enough that you dont care about not scoring a huge payout if you win.

I feel like what makes tuesday dubs so attractive is that anyone can play (even kids and new comers) and you can usually double your money with a win if you do well enough not to tie.

I realize this league is more "serious", but it has a lot of "serious" competition in roch this year as far as local events/leagues.

just my 2 pennies...

For me i work overnights from 10pm - 7am so its harder to do league right before going to work all night.

I have Saturday & Mondays off.
So i can do Gonzo Saturday leagues & tournaments on weekends.
I can also go to Erie Disc golf league on Mondays cause i have the night off.
Then i try to get out to Tuesday double league before heading to work for 8 or 10 hrs.

So if its a good week i do 3 out of the 4 So that also adds up to $$$ 30 $$$ a week just to play disc golf, and thats just for leagues. Since i work overnights i play all day every day out side of leagues. So some times i need a night off and cant afford to put up more $$ each week since i already am a Disc Golf Nut and buy and sell disc golf stuff day in and day out.

So long story short for me its the Day & Time its on, and the amount of $MONEY$ i already spend a week on disc golf.

Ps - I do miss DEREK. :wtf:

Mike,
You only have to be current PDGA for the purpose of ratings in the event. I played last year without a PDGA membership no problems. I didn't have to pay extra per event either. And even nicer the PDGA included those rounds (upon my request) when I got my membership this year.

Wow, didn't know that...Thanks Tom.
Perhaps others considering thurs singles had the same impression...Maybe the word sanctioned is just plain scary

Ok the word Sanctioned was removed and yes thank you Tom, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A PDGA MEMBER TO PLAY! Come on out everyone!

I think what I am gathering is that people are getting a good return on their doubles play. I was in the same boat but singles can do the same. So if we had 30-40 people coming out each week the payout would be higher.

Would things change if payout was higher and you were getting a better return? Or are there just not enough disc golfers in the Rochester community yet to have 5 leagues?

Normally I'd be making both doubles and singles this summer. Due to needs at work, I had a schedule flip that keeps stuck til 6-7pm. Versus last year, I was out by 3:30-4pm.

It bummed me out, but, bills are bills.
