Parma Tee Pads

Postby rhand » Fri Apr 30, 2010 11:38 am

OK here we go. Course #3.

We will be installing cement tee pads at Parma on May 14/15.

We will be doing preparation work there on May 8th. We will start at 8am. Bring loppers, rakes, hand saws, ect...

Remember that it is a requirement as a club member to participate in work days to be eligible for the year end club finals as well as the year end doubles final. I hope to see you all out there. This is really important for our club in preparation for worlds. We all need to come together to make this happen.

Can someone put this up on Buffalo and CNY's sites.

Thanks,

Ryan

Yes, there will be some tweaking.

Holes #11/12/13/15 will all be changing. You will be seeing 3 completely new holes. A little less walking, but still all the challenge.

Something else everyone should know:
Due to the amount of debris that have been thrown in the pond and around the pond from disc golfers trying to retrieve their discs hole #2 will now only be played in tournaments. For those of you who don't know Parma is very particular with the care and maintenance of their park. They pride themselves in keeping the park clean and well maintained. It is hard enough to keep up with all the litter out there. They just got fed up with having to pick up all the branches when they mow and they don't like the mess for all the people that rent the VFW. Please do your part to leave the course cleaner then you found it.

Hope to see you all out there this Saturday.

Thanks,

Ryan

All very good responses and questions.

1st of all. I love hole #2. I'm sad to see it go for the casual rounds but you must appease the parks department, especially with everything they do out there for maintaining it. The basket will be moved all together. You will play #1 and then to to #3. Once the cement is in, tee signs are the next thing to go out there. There will be no more confusion as to where to go.

Mike, I think I did a pretty good job with the Parma layout at present. I would never pull holes to simply squeeze in something average. The new holes are actually harder and more visually appealing. I've been looking at a redesign for over the past year. The back has too many holes side by side where the fairways often merge together and for a large tournament flow and safety are major concerns. These changes will eliminate this all together. I will show any and everyone all the proposed changes this Sat/Sun or anytime during the week. It is too difficult to try and describe the changes here on the forum. There is no way people would know what I'm talking about or enjoy the landscape of the holes.

I'm not looking to have an average course. I think Parma is one of the best in our area and all I look to do is improve on it. So please come out this weekend. See what we are doing, be a part of it, and make our courses better.

Thanks,

Ryan

I want to thank everyone who came out Sat morning for helping out. We accomplished what we needed to do and I think we should be all set for this weekend.

Doug Blighton, Doug Corea, Jim Hastings, Dan Hastings, Adam Brennan, Matt Brennan, Chris Funston, Mike Falconio, Tim Johnson, Gene Beaumont, Dale Wurtz, Mickey Welling, Dean Johnson. If I'm forgetting anyone, sorry.

We have a big weekend next week so I hope a lot more people make it out. We will be there Friday afternoon (anytime after noon) and Saturday. Please show up. Remember you need to show up to work days in order to qualify to play in the year end events hosted by the club. If you aren't directly involved in creation of the tees there will be multiple other tasks as well. Bring shovels, rakes, weed eaters, loppers, ect...

Thanks,

Ryan

I think that the weekend went as good as it could have with everything that happened.

We got 11 pads completely done. The remaining 8 all have the frames/stone/mesh there and they're just waiting to be tamped and poured.

I want to thank everyone that made it out there this weekend. We couldn't have gotten even close without the help of Greg Curcio, Doug Blighton, and Jim Hastings...thank you three for your continued support and help. The following are the rest of the crew: Dan Hastings, Adam and Matt Brennan, Tim Johnson, John Alloco, Tony Inzana, Doug Corea, Mike Falconio, Keith Davis, John Lehman, Dale Wurtz, Andy Austin, Jeff Walker, Troy Widden, Jamie Habitzruther, Mickey Welling, Chris Funston, and myself. If I'm forgetting someone that is not my intention. Still a little under the weather and going by memory.

A couple of things definitely would have made a difference.

1. Most importantly - more people. It was a big disappointment to only have between 6-10 people there Friday. There is way too much to get done to only have that many people show up that day. I would have liked to have seen about twice as many on Saturday as well. Remember you need to participate in work days to be eligible for any of the year end events put on by the club.

2. The weather, the rain Friday made the back meadow too wet.

3. The buggy not breaking.

The question I ask all of you now...will people show up this Saturday to complete the project. It looks like it is supposed to be dry all week. We could rap things up this weekend and be done. I know that there is a tournament in Buffalo and some might be going there. I'm willing to pass on this event to make the tee pads happen. Please let me know ASAP as we have to have bodies to pull this off.

Thanks,

Ryan

I'll be in DC w/my Dad. Doug Blighton has a sledge hammer for amy d-stakes I didn't pound flush. He also has the distance wheel. I measured the new #2 at 255 and #3 at 222. W/the extra cement, maybe two tees on #5 and/or other holes?
Some ideas for this and future work days:
- call members (especially ones that missed the previous 3), we need
to put some "teeth" into club final work day policy!
- post on course kiosk, date/time, work to be done, and reason - getting ready for 2011 AM WORLDS! (also as a courtesy to casual players)
- We have the go ahead at Basil to cut trees and build Blighton's
bridge. We can also wrap "early wood" trees w/drainage tubes. Mr. John Plummer was very receptive w/Dog's plan to plant new trees. We need to schedule work days. One to do all the cutting and one for the "BIG CHIP". Dog suggested Memorial Day weekend ? He has two chain saws (Keith hopefully could work one) and maybe we
could get Troy to come back w/his. Kudos to Troy for coming in from out of town !
- I will not go into all the details of yesterday's walk thru, but we are very encouraged our vision for Basil can be implemented!!

We are a go for Saturday.

We will have 2 cement buggies and a tamper.

The truck won't be there until 9am so that gives everyone plenty of time to wake up and come on out and help.

I will be there at 7am with donoughts and coffee again so come early if you want some. We will be moving some stone and tamping the remaining pads. We need help for this so some people please show up early.

Right now I have the following people coming
Ryan Hand
Doug Blighton
Jim Hastings
Keith Davis
Adam Brennan
Jamie Habitzruether
Greg Curcio
Gene Beaumont
Micky Welling
John Lehman
Tim Johnson
Time Campell (maybee)

We need more people so if you can make it let me know ASAP. The weather looks good and things should really dry up out there.

Keith...I like the idea of the seed and we should have some. I need to talk to the garden center up in greece to see if they have some top soil they can get to us and I can pick up some seed as well.

Hope to see a lot of new faces this weekend. Right now the year end event is pretty small because the same people just keep showing up for work days.

All the pads are done and baskets moved! What a great job by all this weekend. Want to thank everyone that made it out...Doug Blighton, Jim Hastings, Gene Beaumont, Adam Brennan, Matt Brennan, Chris Funston, Keith Davis, Micky Welling, Greg Curcio, Jamie Habitzruether, Chuck Seigfried, David Shewan, John Lehman, Dale Wurtz, Tim Johnson, Tim Campbell, Steve Apton, and myself.

Doubles will be at Parma this week. Can't wait to play the new pads and added holes.

We still have more work to do out there. I'm asking for anyone that is available to come early to Parma before doubles. We have to remove the remaining frames and load them up on Jim's trailer. I will also be developing a to do list for Parma that will be on the forum. People can complete the tasks to fulfill their work requirements for league and the club finals.

Thanks again to all that helped.

The perfect size/length on most pads.(14 could be a bit longer.) Excellent work though, club members, thank you! Only one idea came to mind as I putted on eight; hole six could be alternately placed to the right(straight off tee) so you can see the green from 8 green. just a thought for aesthetics. Shot a 57, 57 & 54. Not a lot of deuces. Shoots like an easier par 59 or 60. or a hard 57. Play can easily get slowed with unfamiliar players come worlds but I assume a lot of work will still be done to "clean" it up more. A 53 or 52 is going to be a really nice score come RFDO. Looking forward to it.
